My Story

My journey into spelling began in 2021, when my husband and I read Ido in Autismland and were profoundly moved by Ido's words. That experience opened the door to understanding brain–body disconnect and apraxia, and ultimately led our family to begin spelling with our son, Kian, in 2022 when he was 5 years old.

The life-changing impact of watching Kian access communication in a new way—and truly presuming his competence—transformed how we related to him and to one another as a family. Knowing that he understood, even when his body could not easily show it, shifted our expectations, our conversations, and our daily interactions.

My Approach

That transformation inspired me to dedicate myself to expanding access to spelling for other nonspeaking and minimally speaking individuals, especially here in Kansas City. I care deeply about equity and inclusion and work to remove barriers so that all families can access effective support.

In my sessions, I bring a calm, empathetic presence, along with patience, creativity, and genuine connection with spellers and their families. I believe in presuming competence, empowering communication partners, and helping each person grow in confidence and autonomy. Through True Voice, I'm honored to walk alongside spellers and families as we build meaningful communication and greater understanding—one letter at a time.

Outside of my work, I love spending time with my husband and our two children, being with friends and eating good food!
